Fredder the Large was peacefully jogging along on his pony, half-dozing as the reliable old creature carried him home to Bree from Archet, when they came upon a goat in the road! And not any old goat – but a dead goat. A smelly, rotting dead goat. While fastidiously attempting to go around the carrion, a man came up to Fredder snivvling about his master who would surely beat him for losing the goat. But this fellow clearly was a scoundrel of the basest sort; for not only did he lie, but he then pulled Fredder off his pony and stole all of his money, leaving the poor old man to hobble down the road in search of his terrified pony. What IS this world coming to? Why isn’t the mayor DOING SOMETHING about all this??

The campaign between current Mayor Torebras Bywater and his rival Brenden Ferny is hotting up.
The other day, TOREBRAS was seen braving the drizzle to set up a little booth in the yard of the Pony where townsfolk could ‘Meet the Mayor in Person’. KELDEAN was quick to seize the opportunity to ask questions (and wave a bucket of manure in Torebras’ direction whenever possible). Did you know that Torebras’ young brother Brandebras helps illiterate voters to fill in their forms? On hearing this Mistress ADA Fiddlehead, sister of Brenden Ferny, selflessly volunteered to perform the same service. Torebras managed to stammer out his thanks before retreating into his booth, behind a sign that was now – alas!- sadly illegible.

Well, ok, evening.
Keldean, ditzy teen that he is, was out wandering randomly not far from the North gate of Bree when he was startled – and a little frightened – to hear a voice addressing him from the dimness beneath a nearby tree. It was Barlok the Infamous, who by his own words was there for the important task of sitting under the tree. The two chatted a little while, when suddenly Barlok jumped at Keldean, sending the boy racing back for the presumable safety of town, while the man retired to his seat, chuckling.

Mayor Torebras Bywater was out for a stroll mid-morning when he encountered Brenden Ferny. (Played by Keldean) The man was hammering a sign to the gate of the large clearing off of Broad Way that announced an upcoming ale festival. The mayor began grilling Brenden on licenses, permission from the council, and even what he -named- the festival. Brenden answered the concerns rather flippantly and the mayor wandered off not long after.

It is well known by the town gossips that the good-for-nothing teenager KELDEAN returned recently from his mysterious trip to the dangerous wilds outside of Bree, and that the teen claims to have had a change of heart and says he has reformed his wild ways. Then what was he doing at the market today, trying to pawn some jewel that ADA the pawnshop owner suspected was stolen? Gossips claim they overheard Keldean giving Ada some strange tale about how he honestly came by the “sapphire” (as Ada described the stone), but there in the pawn shop, agreeing with every word that Keldean said was CORDELIA, that dark-haired woman who got Keldean into all that trouble last year to begin with! Is Keldean already slipping from his new moral standards?! Tongues are wagging!

A fine rainy afternoon in the village of Archet was rudely interrupted the other day when the teen KELDEAN rode up on a brown mare. The teenager was there to try to speak to the ranger “Seeker” (RHIFAROTH, played by Lithuigelir), even though Seeker’s wife, MUIRGHEAL, had warned him previously to stay away. Indeed, on seeing Keldean ride up, Muirgheal warned him off once more–and then, when the boy did not leave, the woman drew knives and threatened violence! The whole event was witnessed by CORDELIA (played by Ceredir), who stood by quietly. Cordelia’s presence seemed to anger Keldean, though: The teenager couldn’t understand why Muirgheal wouldn’t let him talk to Rhifaroth, yet was friends with Cordelia, who is known to have been heavily involved in the kidnapping of Rhifaroth a year ago. Muirgheal’s threats, though, eventually made Keldean give up. And then strangely–for Keldean seemed to be angry with Cordelia–Keldean and Cordelia rode away on the teen’s horse.
Just what is going on here? RP and ask!

SUBJECT: BREE: Ghosties, ghoulies and … elections?

Ever since that queer trip out to the Barrow-Downs (treasure hunt or murder investigation, depending who you speak to), neither hide nor curly foot-hair has been seen of Mayor TOREBRAS Bywater. Today the nervous hobbit emerged from hiding just in time to hear BRENDEN Ferny (played by Keldean) holding forth about all the work around town needing done, and the Mayor’s disgraceful absence. Torebras seemed disinclined to answer questions about his trip, though CORDELIA helpfully let a few snippets of information fall, but one thing led to another and Brenden demanded an election. What’s more, Torebras agreed. There’s to be voting and all, right here in Bree! The current Mayor hasn’t exactly been effective – maybe it’s time we had a Big Person in charge. On the other hand, would /you/ vote for a Ferny?
So, what exactly did happen on that trip? Accounts differ depending who you speak to. Ghosts, wolves, skeletons … some folk claim the walking dead pushed the Mayor down the hill. I mean, really! Toothless old Gaffer Goosefoot has a different tale, though. Says it was one of those dirty rangers (THULION) knocked the Mayor down, then scared off a couple of youngsters. After the treasure, that fellow must have been. Never trust a Ranger, that’s what I say.
