They must have been. What else could cause such reckless disregard for the sanctity of Ale? I mean, did you see them? There they were, fighting, yes that’s right, actually /fighting/ in the Floating Log! It was a disgrace! Why, I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t sour all Ol’ Arlo’s ale. He oughta get compensation, so he ought. But we done showed them. Kicked ‘em right out. And see if any dorves is welcome in our pub again! No sirree.

Involved in the fracas: Ranon (Keldean), Leris (herself), Blotto (Nob, who dispite his name, wasn’t), Faori (Acelen) and Riho (Bo).

Khuzdul: The Secret Tongue of the Dwarves

November 10, 2008

“On one point, however, the Dwarves were always “rigidly secretive… For reasons which neither Elves nor Men ever fully understood they would not reveal any personal names to people of other kin, nor later when they had acquired the arts of writing would allow them ever to be carved or written. They therefore took names by which they could be known to their allies in Mannish forms.” (PM:304) Appendix F in LotR confirms this: “Their own secret and ‘inner’ names, their true names, the Dwarves have never revealed to any one of alien race. Not even on their tombs do they inscribe them.” Hence the names Balin and Fundin, that occur in a Khuzdul context on the slab over Balin’s tomb, are not themselves Khuzdul. They are Mannish names, merely the substitute names Balin and his father Fundin used when non-dwarves were present.”

Michel Delving: Lost in the Shire

Confusing, twisty, crowded place, filled with friendly (very friendly – too friendly??) hobbits. Oskar came out of a drinking establishment one evening, in very nearly a good mood (helped along by plenty of beer), to find Barrack sitting on a flowerpot. The elder dwarf complained of having been sitting there for Hours, waiting for a familiar face to explain to him how to find his way back to the dwarven encampment. While being stared at by Cicely, Oskar tried to give Barrack directions, and finally decided it would be easier to take him himself. As the two wound their way through the small town, coming at last to their camp, they found Ranon waiting there. Oskar’s pleasant mood vanished at once and he deliberately went in a different way.

A query

I was just wondering to myself, what does BEST stand for in this new cultural grouping? B=Bree E=Ered-luin S=Shire… what does the T stand for with regards to Mithlond? Also what was the basis for Nano as the greeters board/com and minion for the LA board/com. Maybe I am being dense but maybe we should have a cultural competition to come up with more relevant names for all our new boards and coms?

T = Tower Hills. :)

Nano is for the little nano-things that go about an organism and keep things working. I confess to picking that one, because I thought it was fun. I’ve asked Rina about a competition.

Thanks, GL -

Festival? and Opinions on Boosting Activity Levels

I have found my way to some rumors that the Luinites are heading east with some trade goods. I propose we have a big Shire-Bree festival (I think the Luinites will be gone for a while) to make use of some of the goods that are bought. This would be a great way to bring in the new era of activity everyone’s hoping for!
I think we need to have regular, interesting events (with thought-provoking TPs connected to them) to anchor more peoples’ desire to connect and RP here. Look at Gondor–they seem to have some decent activity. I suspect it’s because people feel like something is going on in their IC lives that they want to work with and develop.
So, if most of the current active players regularly get RP going and everyone gets involved in a TP of some kind (even if it’s just a group of 3 or 4 people RPing with each other every couple of days), I believe it will form something like a glue that will catch more and more people as they check out the cultures in Eriador.
That being said, I would personally find it fun to get some more plots going between all the cultures in the region (ones that fit into the theme of the game). I think it would be easiest for Bree and Shire to interact, ICly, more often. But, I think even our local elves can find some way to become more involved with everyone else.
Thanks for reading my opinions!

Hey folks,

Now that we’ve made the change, here’s a quick summary of our new bboard/com system.

Culture Bree Ered-Luin Mithlond Shire

Main board ——————-Best-bb—————–
RP board ——————-Best-rp—————–
Greeters board ——————-Nano-bb—————–
LAs board ——————-Minion-bb—————

Main local com <bree> <luin> <mithlond> <shirefolk>
Cross-culture com ——————-<best>——————-
Local LAs com <bad> <lula> <mithadmin> <sla>
Cross-culture LAs com——————<minion>—————–
Greeters com ——————-<nano>——————-

Clear as mud, eh?

With all the joint boards, it’s easy for specific culture stuff to get buried. So, to make things clearer, if you’re posting something for a specific culture please could you put the culture name in uppercase at the start of the post title? Or if it’s for all cultures, put ‘ALL: …’

MICHEL DELVING. It was mid-morning when three people came together in the Delving Inn Two dwarves, LERIS and Ranon (played by KELDEAN), and a hobbit, Thilo Bracegirdle (played by BOLDIBAD).
Thilo followed the dwarves into the Delving Inn. He approached them and introductions were generously exchanged. Thilo explained his connections in pipeweed country, and that he dealt almost exclusively in pipeweed. The dwarves, being traders themselves, showed interest in the Bracegirdle’s Longbottom Leaf after trying a sample of it… though they expressed their preference for Old Toby.
Thilo, claiming to have 5 barrels of pipeweed with him, turned down Leris’ offer of dwarven metals in exchange, saying he’d have no use for it. Leris mentioned fireworks, but they were unsure of which of their companions possessed them. Thilo showed much interest in that. Ranon showed Thilo a pipe, claiming it had come from Erebor, a place which Thilo was unfamiliar with. From here, the conversation turned to Bilbo Baggins, and accounts of his assistance in removing the dragon, Smaug.
Thilo didn’t seem to believe it, even laughing. Ranon was somewhat insulted by Thilo’s response, and an argument went back and forth between them. Soon, Mr. Bracegirdle became angry and left the scene.

Check out the log.

Ered-Luin: Caravan on the move!

SUBJECT: EL: Caravan on the move!

MESSAGE: ———————————————————————
The caravan from Ered Luin is on the move. Perhaps 40-50 strong, a large group of dwarves is on the road. They’re hauling weapons, armor, and all sorts of khazad wares. A group of Mahal priests are traveling with the caravan as well. Leris is enjoying a first trip out of Ered Luin, and has become fast friends with Ranon (temp by Keldean) who is an apprentice metalworker from Erebor. More than a few have grumbled about the bold young hothead from the east.
